“Exactly a year ago, I started one-to-one sessions with Katy. I have always been an avid walker but, regardless of the miles I put in, I never felt fit. As I got older I noticed the loss of flexibility, strength and balance. So, I made the decision to try a personal trainer. I have been doing two sessions a week for a year. During my first session, Katy asked me to do things I was convinced were not humanly possible. I remember thinking, “How in the world can I lay on my back with my feet in the air and raise my hips up off the mat? And, there is no way I can do more than one sit-up or push-up!” Now, a year later, I don’t think twice about doing more than one sit up, push up or hip up. In the beginning, I was dealing with shoulder issues. Katy tailored my sessions around my injury and started building up my shoulder strength. I am now pain free and no longer think of myself as having shoulder issues.

Recently, I was asked why I don’t just do the exercises on my own and save the money spent on a trainer. That is an easy answer for me - I won’t do it on my own and if I did, I would probably injure myself.

Each week Katy builds on previously learned exercises and introduces skills. Each session is different and challenging and planned in advance. Katy keeps me accountable and motivated, and she makes sure I am doing each move correctly to help avoid injury. She does all of that through online meetings.

After one year, I feel stronger and more flexible, and I have regained the balance I lost over the years. I can’t wait to see what changes I will see over the next year. Thank you Katy!!”

“My journey to Katy’s Total Fitness began in 2010 when I was living in Washington DC and my roommate facetiously listed “weight lifting” as my interest on my online dating profile. Although I was not a “weight lifter” and actually despised running and the gym, they say once you manifest something out into the universe it comes true. It took a bit, but by 2017 I was in the studio with Katy with the motivation to get in shape for a college reunion.

That reunion has come and gone, but 5 years later I’m definitely still in the studio with Katy because I’ve realized that Katy’s training holds me accountable, makes me feel really good, pushes me more than I would push myself, and allows for “me time”. It’s helped me stave off nausea during pregnancy, ensured a safe and easy delivery of my son as well as a super speedy recovery, and allowed me to be the fun mom and aunt that can play tag or carry a tired toddler who’s given up on walking. So far I’ve roped in my cousin, my sister, and a friend to come train with Katy (and me) because I love it and enjoy pushing myself with others. While training makes my body feel great, I think it will always benefit my brain more. Stress at work or home seems to be put in perspective if not totally relieved after an hour with Katy. I’m glad to say “weight lifting” is no longer a fictitious hobby thanks to Katy.”

“I haven’t been this confident in years... Katy has changed my life with her unique, energizing, and incredible workouts. Since working with Katy, I have gotten stronger each and every single day. I am so proud of how much my endurance has improved, and the amount of weight I can now lift! I feel absolutely incredible, and I can’t wait to continue my journey!”

“Over the years, working out consistently was not something I did well. I’d get motivated for short periods of time and ultimately give up because working out just wasn’t something I enjoyed and I wasn’t seeing the results I was hoping for. It wasn’t until a little over two years ago when I decided I needed to figure this out. I started going to Katy twice a week, and about a year after that added in Orangetheory classes as well.

Without Katy, I don’t think I would have found the thing that works for me. I have become so much stronger than I ever thought I could be. I feel like I’ve accomplished something (in particular, being able to now deadlift 135 lbs), and look forward to accomplishing more! Katy knows exactly how to motivate, while pushing you towards your goals. So grateful for you, girl!”

Jenny R. [Nov, 2020]:

“Like many, I once thought working with a personal trainer wasn’t for me. I’m generally active and self-motivated. I eat well. I can keep after it. I’d compared the numbers; the cost for a trainer compared to a gym or class membership. I’m a business person and pragmatic, this is how I make decisions.

However, I committed because my cousin was working with Katy. In truth, it was an opportunity to spend time with family and a friend in a way unlike anything we’d done before. I didn’t know how long I would stay engaged.

What I didn’t plan on and couldn’t forecast were the relationships.

Katy has a way of figuring you out, challenging you and holding you accountable. I have a conscious, I’m competitive and I couldn’t let her or myself down.

I see and admire a side of my cousin I didn’t know. Her athletic strengths, approach and focus are so different than mine. We’ve since inducted a third into our group session and that’s added another layer of entertainment, camaraderie and strengthened that relationship.

It’s now been twice and week for more than 3 years and sharing exercise, goals, tough days and successes with others has proven to be priceless.”

“Maintaining a fitness routine before, during, and after pregnancy (and during, again!) gave me the strength & confidence needed for labor, made my recovery easier, and helped me get back to feeling like “myself” faster. I’m not always as disciplined as I should be on my own, but having Katy’s consistent support has helped me meet AND exceed my goals. Health is wealth!! ”
